Gigabit network applications are becoming more prevalent in the industrial automation world. In fact, it has become widespread to transmit video, voice, and high-rate industrial application data over one network due to the availability of higher bandwidths and the increased reliability of open standard Ethernet technology. Transmitting large amounts of video, voice, and data simultaneously over the same network can cause the network to slow down substantially. This increased demand for high-bandwidth communication, such as on-line video and IP phones, is driving many industries to upgrade their existing network backbones to Gigabit speed. Gigabit Ethernet can be used for a backbone network to supply data in real time, and with higher bandwidths.
In response to the growing need for heavy duty applications in industrial networks, Moxa now offers a series of Gigabit-enabled industrial Ethernet switches that can form a Gigabit backbone and uplink to the control center, video-over-IP equipment, Ethernet-enabled devices, or other switches. Switches offered by Moxa include the EDS-828, a Layer 3 24+4G-port modular Ethernet switch, the EDS-728, a Layer 2 24+4G-port modular Ethernet switch, the EDS-518A, a standalone 16+2G-port Etherent switch, and the EDS-510A, a standalone 7+3G-port Etherent switch.
