Moxa's IEC 61850-3 Ethernet switches are designed specifically for substation environments. The entire line of PowerTrans switches has passed IEC 61850-3 and
IEEE 1613 certifications (conducted by KEMA) for GOOSE compliance and zero packet loss performance. The series also supports the IEEE 1588 protocol for timing accuracy over a substation LAN, which is highly favorable for large-scale distributed power grids.

The EMI stress in high-voltage substations may cause errors or equipment damage in electronic communications. Moxa's PowerTrans Ethernet switches are designed to withstand all of the EMI type tests required by IEC 61850-3 without experiencing any communications loss. The full product line has passed IEC 61850-3 and IEEE1613 certification testing conducted by KEMA, a well respected testing laboratory in the energy and utility markets. Further tests, including GOOSE messaging, EMC tests, extreme temperature tests, and mechanical tests for vibration and shock resistance, were conducted to verify the overall durability of the PowerTrans series.

 

Nanosecond-precise time synchronization with IEEE 1588 PTP
PowerTrans switches provide exact timekeeping across large-scale distributed substations and high-performance applications using the IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol. IEEE 1588 support also ensures interoperability with existing or new equipment.

 

Maximum availability ensured with Ethernet redundancy and
dual isolated power inputs
Moxa's PowerTrans Ethernet switches feature the highest level of reliability by offering Gigabit Turbo Ring and RSTP/STP (IEEE802.1W/D) technology with fast network fault recovery under 20 ms. Maximum uptime is assured with integrated dual isolated redundant power supplies for 24/48 VDC, or 110/220 VDC/VAC, offering maximum recoverability.

Full Gigabit performance optimizes network backbone
Moxa's PT-G7509 full Gigabit Ethernet switch is well suited for high bandwidth applications found in substation automation. The PT-G7509 offers maximum performance and real-time video, voice, and data transmission via a highly flexible deployment of Gigabit ports.

 

Layer 3 routing for large scale substation networks
Layer 3 routing improves large-scale substation network performance. Moxa's PT-7828 Layer 3 Ethernet switches are capable of dividing a large network into hierarchical subnets to allow smooth traffic flow and network efficiency.

 

Unaffected by extreme temperatures
To perform flawlessly in the exposed climate of utility substations and industrial environments, Moxa's IEC 61850-3 substation Ethernet switches are designed for completely fanless operation in a wide temperature range of -40 to 85ºC.
