The W406 embedded
Linux or WinCE computer uses the Cirrus
Logic EP9302 32-bit ARM9 processor and features
two software selectable RS-232/422/485 ports,
1 Ethernet port, and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
900/1800/850/1900 MHz for cellular communication.
It also comes with an SD socket, USB host,
and 4 digital input and 4 digital output
channels, making it the ideal computer for
a variety of industrial applications. With
wireless capability, you can extend the
reach of your network system and build a
peer-to-peer, distributed, wireless communication
embedded system to make traditional wired
devices wireless, and provide higher mobility

Typical Application
In this real case scenario, the customer needed a way to connect an I/O device to a UC-7112-LX embedded computer and GPRS modem. Now, thanks to the W406 wireless embedded computer—which features GSM/GPRS/EDGE, 4+4 DI/DO and 2 serial ports—all three pieces of equipment can be replaced by a single device.
Moxa's W406 wireless embedded computer with GSM/GPRS/EDGE is designed for remote monitoring, control, and management. The wireless and SMS features are perfect for remote sites or long range communication. For example, rainfall monitoring systems are often spread out and difficult to access and control. As a result, it is necessary to set up control and monitoring devices in several remote and unmanned areas to measure volume, humidity, and environmental parameters in rainfall monitoring applications. These devices are difficult to install and maintain due to the inaccessibility of the monitoring sites. Fortunately, the W406 wireless embedded computer features 4+4 DI/DO to collect data from rain gauge meters, and a wireless interface and SMS function for sending data, ensuring reliable data acquisition, storage, and transmission back to the control center. In addition, the W406 can also trigger an alarm system and send SMS warnings to engineers or the control center if an accident occurs.
