The UPort 1150 and 1150I provide an innovative 3-in-1 interface for
USB-to-serial conversion. A single interface supports RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 connections, for enhanced flexibility. Furthermore, the UPort 1150I includes optical isolation, protecting the PC from potentially damaging surges and electrical spikes.
Flexible RS-232/422/485 interface
Laptop computers are a convenient tool for accessing networks and testing devices on-site, but many have only USB ports and no serial ports. Converters that allow PCs to connect to an industrial bus over a USB port have therefore become increasingly popular. However, there are three different interfaces for industrial serial communication. Most converters are only able to support one or two of these interfaces, forcing field engineers to keep several different converters on hand.
With a flexible 3-in-1 RS-232/422/485 interface, the UPort 1150 provides engineers with a single solution that easily handles a variety of legacy serial devices. Engineers can use the DB9 connector or terminal block to connect to devices.
Convenient size
The UPort
1150's small size and easy setup are designed
to provide users with maximum flexibility and portability.
Its compact size allows it to be carried in a pocket,
and the included drivers make it easy to identify the
assigned COM port number. Simply hold the mouse pointer
over the UPort icon in the Windows System Tray to see
the assigned COM port.
Isolation protection
Enhanced reliability is provided with the UPort
1150I, which has a rugged metal housing and provides 2 KV DC optical isolation protection. It is specifically designed for data acquisition equipment in harsh environments. Electrical spikes can potentially shut down an assembly line or an entire plant, so it is critical that they are properly managed. In worst-case scenarios, facilities can suffer extensive damage. With the isolation protection provided by the UPort 1150I, host computers are protected from potentially damaging electrical spikes.
