Project Introduction Due to concerns over global warming and shrinking oil supplies, people have begun to look for ways to save energy in their daily
lives. In addition, more and more enterprises are trying different methods to save energy, not only to help the planet, but to reduce
costs. The largest chain store in Belgium is taking steps to reduce its environmental footprint. Known for stocking all kinds of
consumer goods for daily life, the company decided to monitor each store's power consumption to ensure efficient operation.
System Requirements Daily power monitoring was required for more than 190 stores. The consumption of both hot and cold water also required monitoring. Data was to be collected from each store using VC++ software. This data needed to be accessible over the Internet from a central system. The solution would have to
achieve the following:
Monitor electricity, gas, and water (both hot and cold) usage
Use one IP address to access all I/O points
Support Windows VC++ programming environment
System Description
The ioLogik E2210 and R2140 act as a single unit that is connected to the Internet using ADSL. The electric and gas meters are connected to the E2210 as counters, while the analog flow meters are connected to the R2140. Each store monitors its own usage of electricity, gas, and water, with the data transmitted to headquarters for storage. Custom software was developed to collect data from each store and to analyze historical data for ways to improve power utilization.

Why Moxa?
Conclusion
ioLogik E2210
Active Ethernet I/O server with 12
digital inputs, 8 digital outputs
ioLogik R2140
RS-485 I/O server with 8 analog
inputs, 2 analog outputs
Expandable I/O architecture for different I/O combinations
One IP address to access all I/O channels
Hot-pluggable LCD module to view I/O status on-site
Power consumption monitoring will become more and more common as government and private enterprise look to save energy. Establishing real-time, non-stop monitoring systems is vital for this effort. Moxa is part of the solution for green enterprise, for data acquisition and communication.
