Security System for Car Dealership using Peer-to-Peer I/O
Project Introduction
Car dealerships require a large space to display and store vehicles, making it difficult to keep the area secure. One of the biggest used car dealerships in the United Kingdom has over 10 locations that required monitoring. Although a perimeter security system was already installed at each site, the client wanted to be able to monitor each location from the company headquarters.
System Requirements The company headquarters was located in London, and
individual dealerships were scattered widely throughout the
region. The headquarters needed to monitor all locations from
a single, master alarm panel. Since each dealership already
had a perimeter security system in place, the main issue was
connecting those systems over the Internet to the master alarm
panel in London. The client wanted a solution that satisfied the
following requirements:
Connects each alarm system to headquarters over Internet
Works with the original system
Able to be implemented with minimal training and wiring
System Description
The existing alarm system at each dealership was connected to an ioMirror E3210, which transmitted I/O signals over the Internet to another ioMirror unit at headquarters. The ioMirror unit at headquarters connected to the master alarm panel, which displayed the status of each remote sensor as if it was physically connected. Since the ioMirror allows channel-tochannel mapping, only one unit was required at headquarters to receive signals from every location. No changes were required to the wiring architecture or alarm system, and no programming was required.

Conclusion
ioMirror E3210
Peer-to-peer Ethernet I/O server with 8 digital inputs, 8 digital outputs
No programming required
Easy-to-use design
Reliable peer-to-peer function with alarm system
Transmitting I/O signals over Internet can be a very effective and inexpensive solution. An existing IP network architecture can be used to transmit I/O signals, without additional wiring or programming. The ioMirror E3210 is very easy to install, with a well-designed HMI for configuration and monitoring. With the ioMirror, projects can be completed quickly and with less effort.
