Trends Network Architecture Solutions Applications Ordering White Paper Contact Us
The key responsibility of power utilities is to offer uninterrupted and reliable electric power to the public, even when harsh environmental conditions make power generation difficult. Power automation systems require integrated communications in order to manage the various processes. Interoperability, reliability, and environmental suitability are three key issues that utilities must deal with.

Integrated Communication Solutions
With 22 years of deep industry experience, Moxa offers a wide spectrum of robust and integrated substation network solutions to connect any device to the network.
Substation Ethernet Switches
Embedded Computers
Serial to Ethernet Communication
Fully compliant with IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613, the PowerTrans series of Ethernet switches provide the highest levels of reliability and availability for substation communications, offering strong EMI/RFI immunity, -40° to 85°C operating range, and redundant media and power for challenging substation environments. Maximum flexibility is achieved by a rugged, modular rackmount design supporting high fiber optic and gigabit port densities, suitable for retrofitting or building new substation networks. Especially, PT-7828 supports Layer 3 routing for better network performance within large-scale LANs. Moxa’s embedded computers have a fanless cooling design, a wide operating temperature range, and rugged, industrial features to satisfy the harsh requirements of the power utility market. Moxa’s Protocol Converter (MPC) software is available to help manage complex protocol communications, greatly simplifying software development and system integration. The DA-662 can help establish a platform that standardizes all aspects of communication protocols in a substation. Even today, many devices in power substations use a serial interface to communicate with remote SCADA systems. There is a huge investment involved with substation communication systems, and migrating a system from serial to Ethernet is a real issue for power utilities. Moxa’s terminal servers help connect serial devices directly to Ethernet, making them an excellent answer to current trends and evolving requirements. The NPort 6000 series supports redundant fiber optic LAN connections, for a high degree of network reliability and superior shielding effectiveness.
