  Real-time Mining Monitoring System

  Introduction
A leading provider in the mining industry has recently upgraded its mining monitoring systems for use in mineral exploration, underground mining, surface mining, and specific areas of the construction industry, such as quarrying, tunneling, demolition, and recycling. In order to collect all production and environmental monitoring information simultaneously, and ensure continuous monitoring, they decided to set up a real-time monitoring network that integrates the video stream into the SCADA system. Since the mining production process involves many harsh environmental factors, the customer needed an industrial yet rugged video networking solution that can withstand these kinds of hazards. This application adopts Moxa's industrial video encoder and industrial Ethernet switch to build an extremely reliable and stable surveillance system.

System Description
For underground tunneling applications, the customer needed a product that is rugged enough to create a monitoring network system that is guaranteed to run continuously. In addition, wireless networking is an ideal choice for subterranean applications due to its easy deployment and greater flexibility. In this case, the customer used four analog cameras, a VPort 351 industrial video encoder, and a wireless AP on each mining vehicle to monitor the mining conditions around the vehicle. The video and data are sent back to a remote control center. The DIN-Rail mounting capability, -40 to 75C wide operating temperature range, and IP30 casing make the Moxa VPort 351-T industrial video encoder a rugged, yet reliable remote video surveillance solution for connecting mining applications to an existing Ethernet network.

Since the remote central control room uses a SCADA system to monitor and control all other devices, video streams from the surveillance cameras are also included in this system by using Moxa's flexible VPort Software Development Kit (SDK) to get the benefits of centralized operation. Moxa's VPort SDK is a user-friendly, customized tool for integrating VPort series video encoders into a comprehensive monitoring and control system. Users can monitor mining sites in real-time from each vehicle at the same time, and provide a better way to control all anomalous events and conditions.
