Introduction The CP-102UF boards are 2-port Universal PCI serial-over-fiber Boards designed for industrial automation applications that require a long distance, multi-point, PC-based data acquisition solution.
The single-mode model (CP-102UF-S) has a maximum data transmission distance up to 40 km; the multi-mode model (CP-102UF-M) has a maximum transmission distance of 5 km. The CP-102UF combines Moxa's own CP-102U serial board and TCF-142 fiber converter. With the CP-102UF, it is easy to transmit serial signals several kilometers over fiber optic cable.
Once the CP-102UF is installed, your PC can be included as one node of a fiber ring formed using TCF-142 serial-to-fiber converters. Since each TCF-142 converter has two fiber ports and one serial port, PCs that are part of the ring will be able to communicate with serial devices connected to the ring. Note that the Tx port of the CP-102UF connects to a neighboring converter's Rx port to form the ring. Once the ring has been set up, simply use the DIP switch to configure the CP-102UF for "Ring mode."
Solution The CP-102UF can be used for long distance applications in transportation, power substations, and telecommunications, even if the application is in a harsh environment, or the fiber optic cable passes through regions saturated with high levels of electromagnetic radiation. For example, the CP-102UF can be used in airport display applications for connecting computers and LED bulletins that are separated by several kilometers.
