Moxa Introduces All-in-One Trackside Access Point for Reliable Train-to-Ground Communications

Brea, California, March 27, 2015—Moxa is pleased to announce the release of the TAP-6226, an all-in-one wireless unit that integrates two access points, a managed fiber switch, and a wide-range AC/DC power supply, to enable reliable train-to-ground communications. Featuring IP68 housing and shock- and vibration-proof M12 connectors, the TAP-6226 is specially designed for the railway environment.
“With train-to-ground communications that usually include the transmission of critical signaling data, the reliability of a wireless network can have a huge impact on train operation and safety,” said Calvin Chuko, Moxa product manager. “To set up a wireless network for train-to-ground communications requires 3 network components—a wireless access point, a switch, and a power supply. However, many operators face installation issues such as limited space for multiple device deployment and difficulty in network wiring. The TAP-6226 is designed to make installation easy and the network reliable. Not only does it integrate multiple functionalities to ensure interoperability and save space, it also complies with railway industry standards to operate in harsh environments.”

The TAP-6226 features the advanced controller-based Turbo Roaming technology for applications such as Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC). In addition, the TAP-6226 can supply power to up to 4 PoE devices while providing reliable LAN connectivity with Moxa’s Turbo Chain technology.

  • 2 dual-band, IEEE 802.11a/b/g compliant radios
  • IP68-rated housing
  • Controller-based Turbo Roaming
  • 2 fiber ports with Turbo Chain technology
  • 4 PoE ports with M12 connectors
  • High transmission power for extended reach
