With Moxa's new series of Universal PCI multiport serial boards, a complete selection of boards is now available for use in any application. These boards conform to the UPCI slot standard for expansion boards and can be installed in virtually any PC server.

First 8-port board with 3-in-1 (RS-232/422/485) interfaces and isolation protection
The CP-118U-I is the first serial board in the world to provide 8 serial ports that each have a 3-in-1 RS-232/422/485 interface and 2 KV isolation. It is also very compact, about one third smaller than comparable boards. Impressive serial performance is provided by the MOXA Turbo Serial Engine™ onboard. This specially designed UART (MU860) allows the CP-118U-I to offer advanced data transmission features that are ideal for industrial applications.

Smart board that can power serial devices
The POS-104UL is a smart, 4-port Universal PCI board that can provide power to devices over the serial port, a feature especially useful for POS and ATM applications. 5V or 12V of power can be provided to each serial port. Both 3.3V and 5V buses are supported, and users can select whether power will be supplied from the bus or from the power supply. Powering serial devices through the serial port can simplify device connections and reduce the total ownership cost.

With the Moxa UART, Universal PCI boards are able to feature a 128-byte FIFO and a special Burst Data Mode. When Burst Data Mode is activated, data can be obtained via I/Os in only half the time normally required, greatly reducing CPU loads. Each serial port on a Moxa Universal PCI port is able to communicate bi-directionally at speeds up to 921.6 Kbps, for a throughput of over 700 Kbps.

In addition, each board is compatible with PCI and PCI-X, supports all major operating systems, and provides built-in 15 KV ESD protection. A selection of different connectors (DB9, DB25, terminal blocks) provides the flexibility for a wide range of different applications. Models are available with 2 to 8 serial ports and a low-profile form factor.
