Security can be an especially critical issue when an application involves outdoor environments, such as environmental monitoring and data communication.

Moxa's W325, a wireless embedded computer, was used to construct a client's outdoor security system for environmental monitoring. The W325 collects data from a sensor that is located at an outdoor panel. The collected information is then transmitted to the control center through GSM/GPRS networks.
The W325 works with the ioLogik E2210, which connects to different digital sensors, to provide a complete solution for outdoor security. Data from the sensors can be processed through the 's serial ports or Ethernet port. After processing, the data can be sent wirelessly to a control center using the 's built-in GSM/GPRS module. The W325 offers data logging that supports expandable storage by SD card.
Outdoor security applications can benefit in the following ways when using the W315 wireless embedded computer:
- Easy installation and integration thanks to compact size
- Lower cabling distribution costs
- Multiple connection options for greater networking versatility
- SD slot for additional data logging storage
