Moxa has released the NM-Modem, a new network expansion module for the NPort 6000. The NM-Modem is a modem module that enables NPort 6000 terminal servers to transmit data over PSTN (public switched telephone network) lines.
With the module, the NPort 6000 is able to transmit data and be managed over the PSTN network. In the "always on'' mode, the modem module turns on as soon as the NPort 6000 powers up. All data from attached serial devices is sent out through the PSTN network, and remote PC/servers are able to manage the NPort or poll data from devices through the PSTN.
In the "backup" mode, the NPort 6000 regularly pings the remote host over Ethernet. If the ping fails, data from the serial device will be sent out through the PSTN network. When the remote host returns to a normal state, data will once again be sent over Ethernet. The backup function helps ensure that the NPort 6000 provides safe and reliable data transmission.
