A European company has deployed Moxa's W315 and UC-7420 embedded computers as the core of their intelligent transportation system, which is based on a combination wired and wireless architecture. A roadside cabinet contains holds a UC-7420 embedded computer that connects various devices, such as meters and sensors. The data collected by these devices can be shown on a variable message sign (VMS), or it can be transmitted immediately to provide real-time traffic and weather conditions for drivers. In addition, the UC-7420 can be embedded with a 3G card to turn the embedded computer into a wireless controller.
The W315 wireless embedded computer is located next to the VMS. It serves as a front-end controller that handles the messages shown on the VMS, and works well as a front-end controller between the field site and the control center.
Using Moxa's UC-7420 and W315 for the intelligent transportation system can bring the following benefits:
Wired and wireless architectures for added flexibility to system design |
Multiple device interfaces that help connect various remote devices at a lower cost |
Fanless design with no hard drive, for longer MTBF |
Multi-LAN feature to ensure network redundancy and continuous operation |
