Moxa's new CN2600 terminal servers are the world's first to support network redundancy along with data backup, greatly reducing data loss. The CN2600's ''Redundant COM'' mode and dual Ethernet ports make it easy to implement dual Ethernet redundancy with no additional software development. For applications such as substation automation systems where data integrity is critical, integrators can achieve extremely reliable serial-to-Ethernet communication with much less effort and time using the CN2600 than with other solutions.
Data acquisition and access control for power substations involves device connections over complex networks. Device servers are used to connect serial devices, such as meters and power-generation equipment, over Ethernet to the control room. To meet strict standards for reliability and data integrity, system integrators must often invest heavily in software development for redundant system communication and control. The CN2600 is able to establish redundant device connections using its ''Redundant COM'' feature, which requires no software development. Integrators can be assured that devices will remain connected and accessible even during a network failure.
Dual Ethernet and Dual Host for Data Backup
For many industrial applications, redundancy is an essential way to ensure continuous system or network operation. To achieve network redundancy, special ''watchdog'' hardware is required in conjunction with a ''token'' switching mechanism at the software level. With the CN2600, the hardware and software-level specifications have been consolidated to create a single, easy-to-use solution for network redundancy for serial devices.
''Redundant COM'' mode is specially designed to establish redundant connections between serial devices and a host computer. The host computer connects to the CN2600 over two independent LANs using the CN2600's two built-in LAN ports. If one LAN fails, data transmission automatically continues using the other LAN. Furthermore, the LAN switchover is instantaneous, so there is no interruption or delay in data transmission between the host and the serial devices.
The CN2600 can also be used to establish ''dual host'' redundancy, where two separate hosts connect to a device simultaneously over two separate networks. If one host fails, data transmission automatically continues using the other host and other LAN. The CN2600 also offers two power inputs with redundant internal power supplies to achieve power redundancy. Connections between hosts and devices can thus be maintained during a network, host, or power circuit failure.
With features designed to maintain data transmission in mission-critical environments, CN2600 terminal servers are perfect for the modern power market. System integrators now have a solution for redundant serial-to-Ethernet communication that does not require complex software development.
