Redundant serial-to-Ethernet communication for power substations

Dual-LAN architecture is becoming more and more common in power substations, which rely on complex and sophisticated networks for data acquisition and access control. Typically, costly software development and specialized hardware are required to manage redundant systems. Many devices, including protection relays, controllers, switchgears, and RTUs, still have RS-232 or RS-485 serial interfaces, so device servers are used to integrate them into major automation systems and enable communication with PC hosts over an Ethernet LAN.

Network Requirements

  • Connect RS-232 and RS-485 legacy serial devices to Ethernet for advanced management and synchronization from local and remote control sites
  • Provide stability and reliability for data acquisition and access control through redundancy
  • Rugged design and rackmount installation

Benefits of Moxa

  • Dual LAN ports for network redundancy and dual host operation
  • Easy connection to meters, RTUs, and other RS-232/422/485 serial devices
  • Easy-to-use Real COM/TTY drivers for Windows and Linux
  • Patent-pending ''Redundant COM'' mode for redundant operation without additional software development
