Moxa has been applying its experience in embedded communication devices towards porting the UPort USB-to-Serial line to the Windows CE 5.0 kernel.
Windows CE 5.0 is an open, scalable, 32-bit operating system that allows software developers to build a wide range of innovative, small-footprint devices. Typical Windows CE devices are designed for specific uses, running either independently or as part of an army of distributed front-end computers that communicate with a centralized host. Examples include enterprise tools such as industrial controllers, communications hubs, and point-of-sale terminals. Windows CE is also often used for display devices such as HMIs, advertisement appliances, and interactive panels.
Windows CE support will be rolled out for specific UPort models as follows:
- UPort 1100 1-port model already supports Windows CE
- UPort 1250 and 1250I 2-port models will support Windows CE later this month
- UPort 1400 4-port models will support Windows CE later this month
- UPort 1600 8 and 16-port models will support Windows CE later this month
