EDS-828 Layer 3 Ethernet switch offers better performance for large networks

The soon-to-be-released EDS-828 Layer 3 Ethernet switch offers improved performance over traditional routers for large local area networks (LANs), such as corporate intranets. Better performance is achieved by using hardware instead of software for some of the router logic.

The EDS-828 supports static routing and RIP (V1 and V2) for data transfer between networks. Static routing is suited to small and fixed networks, and involves manual configuration and maintenance of the IP routing table. RIP allows the routing table to be dynamically created and updated, and is suited to networks that are extended or for which the topology is frequently changed.

Both Layer 3 and Layer 2 features are supported by the EDS-828. Layer 2 features include QoS, IGMP snooping, GMRP, VLAN, LACP, SNMP (V1 to V3), RMON, IEEE 802.1X, and https/SSL.

Up to 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports and 24 Fast Ethernet ports may be installed on the EDS-828. The modular design provides a high degree of flexibility for network expansion, enables the EDS-828 to meet the needs of practically any industrial application.

The EDS-828 will be available later this month. For more details, please visit the EDS-828 product page.
