The
ioLogik E2262, which offers expanded thermocouple sensor capabilities,
is a new member of Moxa's Active Ethernet I/O line. The ioLogik
E2262 provides direct thermocouple input with 16-bit digital
values for the eight most commonly used sensor types: J, K,
T, E, R, S, B, N, as well as mV. Users can read the thermocouple
input signal directly in Celsius and Fahrenheit, without additional
conversion or scaling.
For the most accurate measurement,
the ioLogik E2262 is designed with two sets of cold junction
compensation and digital filtering. Calibration, linearization,
and calculation are based on the thermocouple tables provided
by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) and
stored in memory to eliminate this factor as a potential source
of error. The ioLogik E2262 also includes functions to detect
sensor burnout or disconnection.
With thermocouple sensors, expansion/compensation cables can be used for long range communication. As cable length increases, total loop resistance and electrical noise can lead to data errors or loss of signal. The traditional approach is to use thicker cables to reduce resistance or to employ a 4 to 20 mA signal conditioner. The ioLogik E2262 TC module eliminates these factors and allows temperature measurement over long distances with high resolution but without analog temperature mapping.

The ioLogik E2262 supports
Active Ethernet I/O, which was developed specifically to address
the limitations of the traditional passive approach. Rather
than letting the host computer poll the I/O module over the
network for status, the ioLogik E2262 intelligently sends
status information to the host computer only under specified
conditions. This is a report by exception
approach, which greatly reduces the load on the CPU and network
resources.
