Moxa equipment used in the monitoring and management system of a coal mine substation

The power to the "Erunakovskaya" Coal Mine, which is located in Russia's Novokuznetsky Region, is supplied by a nearby 110/6 KV step-down substation. The engineering design and construction of the substation was done by Sibirskaya Electrotechnica (www.kemont.ru).

The monitoring and management system deployed at the substation is based on the collection and exchange of data between the control center and relay protection microprocessing terminals. The system also allows the assignment and processing of digital and analog signals, including central alarms and fire alarms, the position of circuit breakers and grounding blades, and analog measurements based on electric current, voltage, and capacity converters. Relay protection microprocessing terminals are installed in 64 cells of the indoor 6 KV switchgear and also in transformer protection cabinets that are connected to RS-485 lines. RS-485 is converted to Ethernet with Moxa's NPort IA5150I serial-to-Ethernet device server, which is installed in the local cabinet used for monitoring and management.

System description
The local monitoring and management cabinet contains the following equipment: RS-485 to Ethernet device servers (NPort IA5150I), media converters (TCF-142), ioLogik controller (ioLogik E2210), Ethernet switch (EDS-316), industrial computer (Front Man), power supplies (DR), keyboard (Indukey), fan, and thermostat. Optical fiber cables are used to transfer data to the upper level, and system data is transferred to the substation shift engineer's work station.

The deployed system provides the following functions: visualization of substation scheme and current operating conditions, control and status indication of relay protection microprocessing terminals, and control of operating condition set values. Both sound and visual alarms will be activated if the power facility's switching or protection relays exceed set values. Warning messages can also be sent to engineers located remotely by mobile communication, SMS messages, or e-mail.
