Turbo-charge Your Industrial Ethernet Switch with Turbo Pack™
Industrial Ethernet switches are used to form the network backbone in substation automation systems, intelligent transportation systems, and other major industrial automation projects. To be deemed "industrial," switches must have a high MTBF and be able to work reliably in harsh environments.
While the hardware design of a switch determines whether it is an industrial switch or simply a commercial switch, software is just as important. Just think of it as the technological glue that binds a switch together.
Software is Also a Key Concern for Industrial Ethernet Networks
For industrial Ethernet networks, one of the most common problems encountered today is the lack of an accommodating technology to build the desired topology for complex networks. There is constant demand for Ethernet switches in various industrial fields (including wind power, oil pipelines, and railway automation networks), since large Ethernet networks that extend over multiple locations are often required. These applications require more flexible topologies. Some industrial automation systems require specific software features, such as redundant ring technology, to make the systems more reliable. With suitable software, common and frequently encountered problems such as troublesome network expansions, private IP and device incompatibly issues, and slow failure-recovery are easily remedied.
Redundancy Technology That Is More Flexible and Reliable
Moxa's TurboPack™ includes Turbo Chain™, an industry-first proprietary technology that provides users with greater flexibility by making it easier to build or expand complex, redundant network infrastructures for industrial applications. Turbo Chain™ provides the fast recovery required by industrial applications.
Turbo Chain™
Moxa's Turbo Chain™ is easy to configure by simply linking two user-configured end ports within the same segment. Turbo Chain™ allows for unlimited redundant network expansions without reconfiguration, and since Turbo Chain™ is compatible with standard IEEE 802.1w/D RSTP and STP protocols, Turbo Chain™ can be integrated into any existing Ethernet network. Compared to traditional ring coupling, Turbo Chain™ requires fewer coupling cables and Ethernet ports, and significantly reduces deployment costs and effort.
Use Turbo Chain™ with any Moxa managed Ethernet switch to build a solid foundation for creating multiple redundant network connections with fast fault recovery time, flexible topology, unlimited network expansion, and cost-effective configuration. In the event of a chain-segment failure, the blocked path (the link between the tail-switch and the outside network) will be activated in under 20 milliseconds. This recovery-mechanism will ensure that the industrial network remains available, with close to zero downtime. In addition, Turbo Chain™ shares the same high level of data availability and reliability as Moxa's self-healing Turbo Ring.
