Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) System
ATMs have an embedded PC in the center of the machine that connects to multiple serial peripherals such as card readers, keypads, touch screens, receipt printers, cash dispensers, etc. The PC connects to these serial devices via a multiport serial board. Some embedded PCs require Low Profile boards due to the limited space available inside a typical ATM.

Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) System
Train stations in urban mass rapid transit systems today are equipped with TVMs to provide convenient ticketing services to passengers. TVMs resemble ATMs and also use an embedded PC in the center of the machine. Although they do not perform bank transactions, TVMs allow passengers to purchase tickets by cash, credit/bank cards, coins, and even Smart Cards. Therefore, TVMs generally use more peripherals than a typical ATM, requiring around 8 ports to connect all the serial devices that comprise the machine.
