Green Products

Several areas of the world are now enforcing new environmental regulations that govern the manufacturing and disposal of products that include electronic components. The first was Europe. The European Union's Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive has been in effect since August 2005, and the Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) took effect in July of 2006. RoHS has caused reverberations around the world. In fact, since these directives became public in 2002, most companies in the industry have been planning for the transition to no-lead products. These directives are described in more detail below:

ISO 14001:2004
ISO 14001 is the standard for assessing an organization's environmental management system (EMS).

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment directive stipulates that a company is
responsible for the ecological disposal or recycling of its electrical and electronic products.

One of the main concerns of manufacturers of networking and communications equipment is getting rid of lead, since lead is one of the main ingredients of solder. Moxa's customers can rest assured that all of Moxa's new "green products," which are being released this year, satisfy the EU's RoHS directive.
