Effortlessly Extend PROFIBUS Transmission with Moxa’s Industrial-grade Fiber Optic Converter

Profibus-to-fiber converterTaipei, Taiwan, August 16, 2012—Moxa is pleased to release the ICF-1180I series of industrial PROFIBUS-to-fiber converters. The ICF-1180I was designed with innovative functionalities designed to provide effortless PROFIBUS-to-fiber transmission of industrial networks. The auto baudrate detection prevents manual configuration errors, and the bus fail safe feature minimizes maintenance efforts. “Our aim is to provide remote PROFIBUS networks a simple method for long-distance data transmission via fiber connectivity that provides longer segment distances and electromagnetic noise immunity features,” said Sean Chen, product manager of the ICF-1180I series.

In addition, the ICF-1180I provides 2 KV isolation protection and dual power inputs to ensure uninterrupted performance, and can also operate in environments ranging from -40 to 75°C, making it ideal for factory automation, power, and oil & gas applications.

Effortlessly bridge PROFIBUS to Fiber -- Auto Baudrate Detection feature
To avoid configuration errors and minimize manual configuration efforts of baudrate settings, the ICF-1180I PROFIBUS-to-fiber converter is designed with auto baudrate detection. This feature enables effortless and error-free configuration of the ICF-1180I and reduces system deployment time.

Effortlessly avoid and notify the failure -- Bus Fail Safe feature

To prevent a single bus failure from affecting the entire PROFIBUS network, the bus fail safe feature lets the ICF-1180I detect and recognize noise signals. If the bus fails on one side, the noise signal will not propagate through the ICF-1180I and affect additional bus segments. In addition, the ICF-1180I will also trigger an alarm notification to the field engineer on the location of the failure, allowing engineers to quickly and easily locate the failed device.
