Introduction
Project Introduction

A leading multinational marine company based in northern Europe needed a more reliable computer to use in marine radar, ECDIS, and conning systems. In the past, they relied on computers that used add-in graphics cards for display output and were built with fans and cables. However, they discovered that the computers they used were highly unreliable, caused significant downtime, and also imposed high system deployment costs. It was time to find a better, more reliable solution for their marine applications.

System Requirements

- Reliable computers for stable operations
- Small form factor that suits the onboard environment
- Multiple interfaces to support many device connections
- HDD/SSD protection for more reliable data storage
- DNV 2.4 certification
- EC 60945/61162/IACS-E10 compliance

Moxa Solution

Moxa's MC-5750 marine computers (a customized version of the MC-4510-C23 computers) were designed for exactly the sort of systems the company was building, and emerged as a far more reliable and capable solution. The MC-5750 works with radar systems as a radar information display, and is also a capable data collection system when connected to devices such as serial NMEA or wind RPN sensors. The customer's MC-5750 computers were also customized with three reserved ports that the customer can use to attach their own development board.

MC-5750 computers have two display outputs, VGA and DVI-I, to enable dual screens to display Gyro, GPS, event log, and AIS information. Network communications are reliable thanks to network redundancy from dual 10/100/1000 Mbps LAN ports.

Most importantly, MC-5750 computers sport storage trays with strong vibration and shock resistance, to secure the reliability of HDD and SDD drives and prevent data loss in high-vibration marine environments.

Moxa's MPC-122-K panel computers complete the marine system. The high-quality industrial-grade panel display delivers high performance and reliable operations in maritime operations.
