Introduction
Project Introduction
This customer is one of the world’s top mission-critical information system providers for the defence, security, aerospace, and transportation markets. The customer has operations in 50 countries and 68,000 employees worldwide, and is looking to elevate their expertise by employing the most sophisticated technologies and large-scale software systems. The project involves creating a remote monitoring system for trackside cabinets, and takes into account that the customer already has an NMS (network management system) based on the SNMP protocol. SNMP is the most popular protocol for the management and diagnosis of networked devices. More and more companies with IT backgrounds are using this protocol to control and monitor physical I/O statuses such as fire alarms, temperature, humidity, and lighting.
System Requirements
-Standard SNMP protocol
-Active alarms via SNMP Trap
-Local intelligence for front-end control
-Easy-to-use, even for large-scale applications
Moxa Solution

Moxa is an industry leader in providing SNMP-based I/Os. Today, Moxa provides stand-alone, wireless, and modular solutions for SNMP-based I/Os. Moreover, Moxa I/Os support a full range of SNMP protocols from V.1 to V3. Moxa’s ioLogik E2000 series, ioLogik W5000, and E4200 all support SNMP protocols.
The ioLogik E2000 series products are stand-alone micro RTUs; there are a total of seven models to fit different remote monitoring applications. The ioLogik W5000 series products are cellular micro RTUs for long distance applications. For cellular technology, the W5000 supports GPRS and HSDPA for 2.5G or 3G networks. The ioLogik E4200 series products are modular remote I/Os for high density applications, with 17 I/O modules to choose from.
For this project, the customer chose ioLogik E2000 series products for their trackside monitoring system. The E2000’s unique compact size played an important role in their decision. ioLogik E2000 series products not only support the SNMP protocol but also support Moxa’s patented control logic, called Click&Go. This revolutionary control logic, which is specially designed for event handling and alarm messages, takes the hassle out of defining control logic routines.
Why Moxa
-Easy to integrate with existing NMS (Network management software)
-Compact size saves precious cabinet space
-One device provides both monitoring and control functions
