Project Introduction
Public photo kiosks provide the public with an easy-to-use, flexible and scalable self-service option for creating photo DVDs, postcards, prints, or other photo products. A prominent kiosk manufacturer in the US wants to replace the hi-speed USB hub currently integrated with their photo kiosk due to the hub’s unreliability. They would like a USB hub solution that is high-quality, reliable, compact, and cost-effective in order to connect in a limited space the many kiosk peripherals that each require their own USB port, including a DVD burner, scanner, receipt printer, and photo printer.
Moxa Solution
Moxa offers an entry-level USB 2.0 hub that expands 1 USB port into 7 USB ports that satisfied all the customer’s requirements. The UPort® 207 is designed to provide true USB 2.0 hi-speed 480 Mbps data transmission through each port, is USB-IF hi-speed certified for verified interoperability, and features IEC 61000-4-2 ESD level 4 (contact 8 KV, air 15 KV) protection to prevent serious static damage. In this application the product must operate in a relatively demanding environment; photo kiosks are publically operating self-service machines that are easily exposed to a static. The certified resilience of IEC 61000-4-2 EST level 4 protection ensures reliable operations despite this challenging high-static environment. Furthermore, Moxa’s UPort® 207 supports 12-40 VDC external power range to guarantee the broadest compatibility with USB devices, even for heavy-load applications.
