In light of the industry specific demands of railway networks, Moxa’s industrial-grade wireless products feature high availability, security, and flexibility for expansion and migration, and are tough enough to provide continuous, reliable, long-standing operation in the harshest railway environments.

Application Flexibility
Moxa designed the industrial-grade AWK series to be IEEE 802.11a/b/g compliant for use as a 3-in-1 wireless AP/Bridge/Client device to provide application flexibility. The AWK series supports long range wireless communications up to 10 km in the 5 GHz bandwidth.

Availability and Redundancy
When roaming between different networks and hotspots, Moxa's WLAN Turbo Roaming™ provides rapid handover time of under 100 ms, resulting in fast seamless roaming on wireless networks. Redundant wireless connections can be realized through STP and RSTP protocols and redundant power inputs.

Network Security
Data security is an important aspect of railway applications. To protect data from being intercepted, the AWK series supports WPA/WPA2 for data encryption over wireless networks. More advanced security includes user authentication and authorization through 802.1x/RADIUS and IP packet filters.

Extreme Reliability and Ruggedness
Wireless communications is a natural fit for railway applications, especially wayside and rolling stock, where wiring for power sources is difficult. Moxa’s quality and rugged design allows for the endurance of severe railway operating conditions with features such as IP67/68-rating for waterproof and dustproof outdoor use, anti-vibration M12 connections, and extended operating temperatures.

Proven Industry Standard
The AWK series is designed in accordance with EN50155 and EN50121 for railway applications and is e-Mark certified for road traffic.
