Meet Our Cloud-Ready IIoT Edge Gateways

Moxa’s IIoT Edge Gateway family consists of cloud-ready edge computers that are optimized for Industrial IoT applications in solar, wind power, water & wastewater, and oil & gas sectors. An optional IIoT software, Moxa's ThingsPro® Suite, simplifies the integration of edge data with the cloud. ThingsPro provides multiple OT and IT connectivity options, including Modbus, EtherNet/IP*, and generic MQTT/HTTPS protocols, and comes with clients to connect to AWS and Microsoft Azure.

These palm-sized edge computers are built around low-power Intel Atom® or Arm processors. In addition, a wide temperature range of -40 to 70°C and 4G LTE support makes them well suited for communication applications in the field.

  • What is Moxa’s ThingsPro Software Suite and how does it work?

Moxa’s ThingsPro Software Suite is a collection of software programs designed to simplify IIoT gateway application development. It currently includes two programs:

    • ThingsPro Gateway: A software for IIoT edge gateways, which provides an easy-to-use GUI for Modbus data logging, tag-based data acquisition, LTE connectivity, and MQTT/HTTPS communication. Also included are C and Python APIs for developing your own applications, and client interfaces for multiple cloud-based services.
    • ThingsPro Server: A cloud-based service to locate and manage your IIoT edge gateways. It can be hosted on cloud platforms such as AWS and offers RESTful APIs for integrating information with your dashboards.

To learn more, watch the ThingsPro introduction video.

  • Which devices and what kind of OS can ThingsPro run on?

ThingsPro Gateway Software is currently supported on Moxa’s UC-8100 and MC-1121 Series IIoT edge gateways that run Debian Linux OS. Additional devices will be supported in the future.

Check the ThingsPro product page for the most up-to-date information.

  • What protocols does ThingsPro support for connecting to a private cloud?

ThingsPro Gateway allows you to connect to your own cloud by using HTTPS protocol and MQTT broker.

For details, refer to these technical notes.

  • Does ThingsPro provide APIs to develop my own programs on Moxa's edge gateways?

ThingsPro Gateway Software provides C/Python/RESTful APIs for users to develop their own data-processing programs on Moxa's edge gateways. For more details, refer to the following technical notes and guides:

  • If I have a number of geographically-distributed edge gateways, how can I effectively manage them?

ThingsPro Server allows users to locate and remotely access gateway devices with a web-based UI. Device management functions include firmware upgrades, configuration changes, and user-program uploads, on demand, or as per a pre-determined schedule. ThingsPro Server also provides an account management tool for role-based access control.

For more details, refer to these technical notes.

  • Is there a programmer’s guide available for ThingsPro?
