Industry experts have warned that the cloud-computing models deployed in many IoT systems today are ill equipped to deal with the volume of data generated by the billions of IoT devices that are slated to go online in the next couple of years. To add to this, these devices generate data in a multitude of formats using a variety of protocols, making their acquisition and realtime processing difficult. In this white paper, we look at the fog computing model and why it is required in today’s IoT applications.
