QUESTION

How do I convert data from Modbus RTU to Modbus ASCII using MGate devices?

SOLUTION

Moxa’s MGate MB3270 and MB3660 Modbus gateways can be used to convert Modbus RTU to Modbus ASCII (serial redirection). For more details, refer to the product pages for these gateways.

If two devices are separated by a long distance, protocol conversion can be achieved by coupling two MGates using an Ethernet connection. An example topology is shown below:

One of the MGates is connected to the Modbus RTU device, and the other one is connected to the Modbus ASCII device. The MGate connected to the master in the topology should be the Modbus TCP master. The device ID on the slave device should correspond to the slave ID settings on the TCP Master. This solution can be implemented using all MB3000 Series gateways.
