Learn How Moxa is Creating Timeless Innovations for Smarter Railways -- Meet Moxa at 2014 InnoTrans

Brea, California, Aug 28, 2014—As an IRIS-certified solution provider, Moxa knows the challenges faced daily by train operators, including managing obsolescence, improving reliability and performance, extending maintenance intervals, and reducing overhaul costs. To overcome these industrial challenges, Moxa’s railway solutions are equipped with multiple innovative software functions that enable greater agility in all three stages of rolling stock network deployment: installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
Under the motto `timeless innovation´ Moxa will present various new products and technologies at this year´s InnoTrans show in Berlin. In addition, Moxa will demonstrate how the in-house developed and produced CPUs of their ToughNet series of Ethernet switches guarantee the long-term availability of their products.

New Intelligent Ethernet Redundancy for Train Inter-Consist Networks
The ToughNet series of EN 50155 compliant managed Ethernet switches supports Moxa´s new Dynamic Ring Coupling technology that enables the speedy and automated configuration of Ethernet switches aboard trains when consists are rearranged mid-journey. Dynamic Ring Coupling guarantees inter-consist network recovery in under 1 second, and even faster intra-consist recovery in 20 milliseconds. Unlike the conventional RSTP, Dynamic Ring Coupling does not disrupt intra-consist networks during reorientation. As a result, all the Ethernet network services today’s long-distance railway passengers and operators have come to expect—CCTV surveillance, Wi-Fi access, passenger information systems, public announcement systems, and more—can be seamlessly enjoyed even when coupling switches are rearranged mid-journey.

High Bandwidth Wireless 802.11ac Transmission for Railway Passenger Wi-Fi
The increasingly widespread use of smart phones and tablets opens up new possibilities for communicating and streamlining processes for passengers and public transport companies. At InnoTrans 2014, Moxa will display wireless 802.11ac solutions for passenger Wi-Fi applications. Featured with the 802.11ac technology, Moxa’s new AWK-3151A series can supply a data rate of up to 1300 Mbps, thus making real-time, high-definition media streaming applications, such as live streaming of online videos, a reality for passenger Wi-Fi.

Integrated Solutions for Passenger Information Systems on Refurbished Trains
When upgrading the passenger information system on an aging train, you must overcome a number of obstacles, including space constraints, wiring difficulties, and a limited budget. Moxa’s ioPAC 8600 series of modular RTU controllers offers serial, I/O, and Ethernet as an ‘all-in-one’ solution in one compact platform/device. The ioPAC 8600’s unique 2-wire Ethernet technology allows system integrators to deploy Ethernet (IP networks) on an existing 2-wire architecture to support the 100 Mbps network currently available on refurbished trains.
In addition, Auto Carriage Sequencing (ACS) is a key feature of Moxa’s ioPAC 8600. Systems on refurbished trains run on a daisy chain network topology that uses CAN bus or RS-485, which means that when switching to an IP-based network, the auto carriage sequencing function is not easy to duplicate. Moxa is able to bypass this challenge and continue to perform ACS functions on the new IP-network; this key breakthrough will greatly reduce the effort required by the system integrator.

Experience Moxa´s innovative technologies as well as additional advanced Moxa solutions for railway automation, including passenger information systems, CCTV, train control management systems, Ethernet train backbones, and train-to-ground and trackside solutions. Meet us in Hall 4.1 at Booth 312.
