Moxa launches UC-7122/UC-7124 embedded computers

Taipei, Taiwan, October 29, 2007—Moxa is pleased to announce the release of the new embedded computers-- UC-7122/UC-7124. Following the success of the UC-7110/UC-7112 with Linux platform, the UC-7122/UC-7124 provide compact yet more powerful embedded solution with Windows CE 5.0 platform.

The UC-7122 and UC-7124 are palm-size, RISC-based embedded computers that provide RS-232/422/485 serial ports and dual 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports. They offer a versatile communication platform that is ideal for embedded applications. The UC-7122 offers two serial ports, while the UC-7124 offers four.

The UC-7122 and UC-7124 both rely on the Cirrus Logic EP9302 ARM9 200 MHz RISC CPU. Unlike the x86 CPU, which uses a CISC design, the ARM9's RISC architecture works with modern semiconductor technology to provide a powerful computing engine with strong communication functions, without generating too much heat.

Both the UC-7122 and UC-7124 provide RS-232/422/485 serial ports that can connect a variety of serial devices. Both models also come with dual LAN ports, making them ideal communication platforms for simple data acquisition and protocol conversion. 16 MB of NOR flash ROM and 16 MB of SDRAM are built in, providing enough storage capacity to run applications. An additional SD slot provides the flexibility for storage expansion. With this combination of features, the UC-7122 and UC-7124 are ideal as control units for industrial applications such as data acquisition, remote device control and monitoring, and protocol conversion.

The pre-installed WinCE 5.0 operating system is a well-recognized platform for software program development. This means that software written in Visual C/C++, and VB for desktop PCs can be easily ported to the embedded computer with a general programming tool such as Microsoft Embedded Visual C++ or Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. No additional time is required to modify existing code, and all code and drivers can be stored in the flash memory.

The UC-7122 and UC-7124 both feature the following:

  • Cirrus Logic EP9302 ARM9 32-bit 200 MHz processor
  • On-board 32 MB RAM, 16 MB flash disk
  • 2 or 4 serial ports with software-selectable RS-232/422/485 operation
  • Any serial baudrate supported between 50 bps and 921.6 Kbps
  • Dual 10/100 Mbps Ethernet for network redundancy
  • SD slot for storage expansion
  • Built-in RTC, buzzer, Watchdog Timer
  • WinCE 5.0 platform pre-installed
