Taipei, Taiwan, May 19, 2025— Moxa Inc., a leader in industrial communications and networking, is excited to announce its participation in the Open Process Automation™ Forum (OPAF) as a silver member of The Open Group, a global consortium that leads the development of open, vendor-neutral technology standards and certifications. This involvement underscores Moxa's ongoing commitment to collaborating with industry leaders to promote open and standards-based networking, as well as to enhance advanced connectivity and support the establishment of more open and interoperable process control systems in industrial automation.

"We are pleased to welcome Moxa to the Forum. Its extensive knowledge in industrial communications and networking, along with the ability to develop a wide range of products for the vast industrial automation ecosystem, will be invaluable for future development of open industry standards," said Aneil Ali, The Open Group Open Process Automation Forum Director. “We are looking forward to having Moxa participate in our collaborative effort to define an open, interoperable, and secure architecture for process automation systems."

With extensive expertise in connectivity for operational technology (OT), Moxa has been a strong supporter of open architecture initiatives—including the OPC Field Level Communications (FLC) Initiative and its UA Field eXchange (UAFX) standard—to enable a unified industrial Ethernet infrastructure that can transfer data and connect devices from the field to the cloud, all within an open automation and control system environment.

"Membership in The Open Group is in line with Moxa's goal of providing reliable industrial solutions that enable and facilitate cross-vendor interoperability of automation components in factory and process automation," said Jack Lin, head of Edge Product Management and global project lead of Advanced Ethernet Technologies at Moxa. "Moxa is committed to actively participating in The Open Group Open Process Automation Forum, where we will collaborate with industry leaders, advance the O-PAS™ Standard, and expedite the harmonization of various open field communications standards—such as the O-PAS standard and OPC UAFX—for the future of industrial automation systems."

The Open Process Automation Forum develops and maintains the O-PAS standard, a standard of The Open Group, which emphasizes foundational and key attributes like Safety, Reliability, Securability, and Interoperability. The security requirements of the O-PAS standard are derived from the ISA/IEC 62443 cybersecurity standards. Moxa has expertise in developing security-hardened solutions through a secure development life cycle (SDL) certified to IEC 62443-4-1, which positions the company well to contribute to the ongoing evolution of the O-PAS standard by incorporating secure-by-design practices into the standard and its implementation.

Furthermore, Moxa’s approach to OT cybersecurity further underscores its commitment to secure-by-design principles. By uniting networking and industrial cybersecurity, Moxa provides  defense-in-depth protection and an array of secure and durable networking solutions that reference the IEC 62443-4-2 standard, enhancing security for industrial applications.
