This paper explores how clever expansion of OPC tagging interfaces may be used to improve efficiency and efficacy during the deployment and development of edge I/O solutions. Input/output arrays in big data networks are coded using industrial automation technology, while communications networks use information technology. These two domains of knowledge are mutually incompatible, and experts from one field find it troublesome to do work in the other. This white paper shows how, by priming a RTU/PAC with pre-scripted functions and then integrating these scripts with a comprehensive tagging interface, it is possible to allow engineers familiar with either of the spheres to quickly and confidently enable fundamental communications and thereby speed up system development and deployments.
