QUESTION

How do I set the data length in TCF-142 serial-to-fiber converters?

SOLUTION

The S1 DIP switch located inside the TCF-142 can we used to set the data length in the RS-485 mode.
Set the S1 DIP switch pins as per the following table to achieve different data formats.

For example, if you want to use 7 data bits with parity set to even, which is equivalent to 7 bits for data + 1 bit for parity, you will need 1 start bit + 7 bits for data + 1 parity bit + 1 stop bit = Total 10 bits.

Date Format S1 Pin 2 S1 Pin 3 S1 Pin 4
7 bits OFF ON ON
8 bits ON OFF ON
9 bits OFF OFF ON
10 bits ON ON OFF
11 bits OFF ON OFF
12 bits ON OFF OFF
