Moxa Showcases the Industry’s First Fully Integrated IEC 61850 MMS Solution at CIGRE 2016

Brea, California, July 4, 2016—Moxa, a leading provider of IEC 61850 substation communication and computing solutions, will showcase the industry’s first fully integrated IEC 61850 MMS (Manufacturing Message Specification) solution that combines Ethernet switches, a device server, and an embedded computer at CIGRE 2016, held in Paris. This solution will be presented at Moxa’s booth (No.376). In addition, Moxa will launch the world’s first PRP/HSR modular Ethernet switch, as well as unveil the world’s first MMS device server prototype to complete the IEC 61850 substation communication solutions.

Industry’s First PRP/HSR Modular Ethernet Switch
Moxa’s PT-7728-PTP (PRP/HSR) Ethernet switch is a PRP/HSR modular Ethernet switch that supports multiple single attached nodes (SANs) for flexible PRP/HSR deployment. The modular design provides the flexibility needed to easily combine and expand PRP/HSR networks. It also supports multiple redundancy protocols, including Turbo Ring, Turbo Chain, RSTP, and/or RSTP Grouping. In addition, the PT-7728-PTP (PRP/HSR) IEC 61850 Ethernet switches support the latest version of IEEE 1588 technology (IEEE 1588v2 PTP) to fulfill precision time-synchronization requirements. These Ethernet switches guarantee time-stamping accuracy within 1 μs for the IEC 61850 process level. They can be configured for 1588 v2 Master, Boundary Clock, and Transparent Clock functionality. Industry’s First IEC 61850 MMS Device Server
The NPort S9000 series is a serial-to-Ethernet device server that supports IEC 61850 MMS for Power SCADA systems to easily monitor all networks. It also supports Modbus and DNP 3.0 protocols for connecting certain serial devices to Ethernet-based networks. Even more, it combines an industrial device server with a fully functioning managed Ethernet switch by integrating a combination of fiber and Ethernet ports with 8 or 16 RS-232/422/485 serial ports, allowing you to easily install, manage, and maintain the products. The NPort S9000 serial-to-Ethernet device server is industry-proven and ruggedly designed; it supports IEC 61000-4 level 4 for substation-level EMS protection. The NPort S9000 series is IEC 61850-3 Class A certified and has passed IEEE 1613 level EMI stress testing on serial and Ethernet with both copper and fiber interfaces. It also supports IEEE 1588v2 and IRIG-B to fulfill precision time-synchronization requirements.

Visit Moxa at CIGRE No.376
The MMS-capable platform allows substation system integrators and automation engineers to combine a view of the entire network’s automation devices right alongside information in the process level. Integrating IT devices via MMS makes substation networks more controllable, more flexible, and more responsive. Visit Moxa’s booth to see a demonstration of IEC 61850 solutions for both retrofit and new substations so that you can migrate to or construct substations for today and tomorrow.
