Moxa Gains IRIS Certification, Demonstrates Exceptional Quality

Taipei, Taiwan, Sep 23, 2013—Moxa has received the coveted International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) certification from the AFNOR Group. IRIS builds on the internationally recognized ISO 9001 quality standard to become a significantly more far-reaching standard because it includes special railway requirements and assumes a 20 to 30 year project duration. Moxa obtained an above-average result in the recent IRIS audit, earning IRIS certification that covers passenger information and communication systems.

As a leading supplier of a full spectrum of industrial networking, computing, and automation products for mission-critical applications, Moxa is aware of the high standards, harsh conditions, and unconventional environments that characterize industrial deployment. IRIS certification is the product of Moxa’s focus on quality and constant improvement in its management, research, and development processes for projects and services.

Maximizing Quality in Every Field
"Moxa’s IRIS certification clearly benefits the railway industry, but the same benefits apply to other industries we do business in: power, oil and gas, intelligent transportation systems, factory and marine automation—any context where operators need the highest level of service, availability, and reliability," explained LM Tseng, senior director of Moxa’s Quality Management division.

The implementation of the tough IRIS-certified management system enhances overall professionalism in dealing with long-term projects. Customers who use these products benefit from reliability, high longevity, low life-cycle cost, and easy maintenance. Life-cycle costs for the development, operation, and maintenance of products are calculated in collaboration with customers, ensuring a high degree of cost transparency across the entire product lifetime. Optimum operational reliability and system availability are guaranteed through comprehensive support, which starts in the development phase and continues through production and servicing right up to obsolescence management.

First Class Solutions in Railway Markets
The UNIFE (Union of the European Railway Industries) formulated the IRIS quality standard, which combines the widespread general quality requirements of ISO 9001 with stringent process requirements that include additional railway-specific requirements. These requirements cover:

  • Technical safety policies
  • Project management (time and cost management)
  • RAMS management (reliability, availability, maintainability, safety)
  • LCC: life cycle cost
  • Obsolescence management
  • Configuration management
  • First article inspection

"In addition to contributing our networking expertise in IEC railway committees, the IRIS certificate represents Moxa’s next step in cooperation with the railway industry and clearly demonstrates our commitment to fulfilling all customer requirements and expectations," added Leo Tsao, senior director of Moxa’s Railway Automation Solutions division.
