Moxa Headquarters Installs 311 kW DC Solar Power System

Brea, California, July 16, 2012Moxa, in partnership with So-Cal Solar, Inc., has completed the installation of a 35,000 sq. ft. solar power system at their global sales and marketing headquarters in Brea, California. Moxa’s solar power system is one of the largest solar deployments in Orange County and is expected to reduce green house gas emissions by 9,309 tons of CO2 over the next 25 years – equivalent to planting 372,356 trees. The system includes both a rooftop and carport array and produces over 311 kW DC.

“In Moxa’s vision for a greener, environmentally sustainable future, solar power is a big component” said Ben Chen, President of Moxa, Inc. “Moxa’s intelligent and efficient solar and substation application solutions are helping to create that future, and we’ve embraced environmental sustainability ourselves at Moxa HQ through this solar power system, as well as green product design, conservation of natural resources, and compliance with ISO 14001 standards.”

The solar power system is also an opportunity for Moxa to educate people about solar technology and related Moxa solutions. Interested visitors to Moxa’s headquarters in Brea can view a live system monitoring demo to understand power output and other important system metrics. This system incorporates Moxa’s own industrial switches, surveillance cameras, computers, and I/O modules into a seamlessly integrated solution. A separate monitoring system is also on display to provide a bird’s eye view of system productivity.

Moxa has also implemented less high-profile but equally important resource conservation efforts such as low-flow aerators, rain sensors for irrigation, and motion sensors for lighting. A dedicated team within Moxa has been assembled to research other resource conservation strategies, such as retrofitting parking lights to LED, an electronic HVAC system and a building energy management system (EMS).

The solar power system uses 1,133 PV panels and a central inverter. An up-to-date snapshot of the system’s performance, including minute-by-minute energy production graphs, can be found at http://live.deckmonitoring.com/?id=moxa.
