Moxa solution forum shoots for oil and gas market

Taipei, Taiwan, May 13, 2008 — Moxa is pleased to invite you to the 2008 Industrial Networking Solution Forum scheduled for June 2, 2008, at the Holiday Inn Al Khobar in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In conjunction with our local solution partner, MTL, we will discuss trends in the application of industrial Ethernet technology, and share our experiences in developing industrial networking solutions for major industries such as oil, gas, and petrochemical.

Safety is a critical matter and cannot be compromised in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries, which involve the production, processing, and storage of highly flammable substances. UL/cUL Class I Division 2, ATEX IIG3 C1Z2 type approvals are important factors in guaranteeing the safety of systems. Sites are classified according to potential dangers, such as explosive atmosphere or flammable conditions. Special certifications involve strict testing standards and help ensure that a device will be safe to operate. Moxa’s Solution Forum will address these issues by focusing on the following topics:

Reliable and Redundant Process Control Networks
Reliability is always a critical concern for process control networks. For example, a sudden breakdown in a DCS system could cause big problems for the production line. Keeping this kind of large and sophisticated system running smoothly and without interruption is a big challenge for system designers. To maximize network availability, Moxa's Ethernet switches and serial device servers support ring redundancy with a fast 20 ms recovery time and dual VAC/VDC power inputs. The redundant ring topology ensures a fault-tolerant network for critical processes.

Intelligent Remote Control and Monitoring Solutions for Harsh Environments
Harsh environmental conditions have the potential to disrupt critical operations in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. Extreme temperatures, explosive conditions, vibration, rain, and dust are some of the challenges that must be overcome by system designers when establishing a reliable communication architecture. In addition, long distances between devices and control hosts often complicate the effort.

To address these issues, Moxa's device networking platforms come with rugged protection that conforms to professional safety approvals and certifications for safe operation in hazardous conditions. With features such as Class I Div. 2/Zone 2 approval, extended temperature tolerances, redundant network topologies, high MTB ratings with fanless design, and intelligent management functions, products are available for nearly any facet of these important industries.

Developing Integrated IP-networked Security and Surveillance Systems
Surveillance monitoring requires the simultaneous transmission of video, voice, and data over a single network. Efficient use of bandwidth is particularly important if surveillance systems are to achieve real-time monitoring. However, the challenge is even greater if the system involves a large number of I/O applications. Moxa’s Active Ethernet I/O architecture requires far less bandwidth than traditional polling architectures. I/O status can be reported automatically and controlled based on user-specified conditions to reduce the incidence of false alarms and conserve precious bandwidth.

Moxa's IP video surveillance solutions includes video encoders, video decoders, and IP cameras, all of which feature wide operating temperatures, redundant power inputs, robust hardware protection, and optional fiber-optic support. These features make these solutions ideally suited for use with distributed surveillance systems at outdoor sites, which could include sea beds and deserts. Advanced IGMP Multicast and QoS network protocols are supported for optimized bandwidth management.

Choose from Moxa's industrial Ethernet switches, industrial video networking products, and Ethernet I/O products when you need a straightforward solution for building hazard-free, centralized networks, and safe surveillance monitoring systems for distributed control systems.
