Moxa's new USB to RS-232 converters support Fixed-base COM mode

Taipei, Taiwan, July 23, 2008 --- Moxa is pleased to annouce that our UPort 2210 and UPort 2410 USB to RS-232 converters now support the new "Fixed-base COM" mode, which frees users from needing to reconfigure the converter's COM ports when it is uplugged and then replugged into the same computer. The UPort 221/2410 USB-to-serial converters provide a cost-effective solution for applications that run in normal, commercial-type environments.

The UPort 2210 provides 2 RS-232 ports, and the UPort 2410 provides 4 RS-232 ports. Both converters give users a convenient and efficient solution for connecting serial devices to a PC, and drivers are provided for most Windows operating systems and also Linux kernel 2.6 and above.

2 and 4-port USB-to-serial solutions for RS-232

Moxa's expertise in USB-to-serial products is built into the new UPort 2210 and UPort 2410 converters, which provide users with reliable solutions at a reasonable price. Some of the more powerful features of the converters are support for Hi-Speed USB 2.0 for up t o 480 Mbps USB transmissions, 921.6 Kbps serial transmission speed, built-in 15 KV ESD protection for all serial ports, and LED indicators for easy troubleshooting. This makes the UPort 2210/2410 especially well suited for mobile, instrumentation, point-of-sale applications, and industrial control devices.

One click COM port configuration

Fixed-base COM mode is designed for users who need to specify the initial COM port number for the UPort's serial ports. This feature could be beneficial if you are developing your own drivers for system integration tasks. In fact, only one click is required to enable Fixed-Base COM mode and set the initial COM port number. The UPort will automatically assign additional COM port numbers in sequence starting from the initial COM number. In this way, you do not need to reconfigure the COM port numbers of the converter's serial ports again and again.

Complete Driver Support

The UPort 2210 and UPort 2410 are the first USB-to-serial products to be Windows 2008 certified. The comprehensive driver support provided by Moxa includes drivers for Windows 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008 (x86/x64), and Linux kernel 2.6.x (x86/x64). Just "leave the driving to us" and save you and your team the headache of programming your own drivers.
