Taipei MRT Award Moxa's IEC 60571 compliant networking and computing devices for metro onboard NVR applications

Taipei, Taiwan, Aug. 30, 2010—Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) selected Moxa's TN-5516 series industrial Ethernet switches, VPort 364-M12 series video encoders, and MC-4615/V2406 series customized version embedded computers to create on-board Network Video Recording (NVR) systems in a Taipei County metro line. Shipment for this project will begin on September 2010.

Moxa's industrial networking and computing products emerged as the clear leader after a rigorous and extensive selection process that evaluated several potential global suppliers. In finding a partner for this ambitious project, TRTC's  key selection criteria included that the capability to provide wide range of communication, computing, and video surveillance products that all comply with the IEC 60571 standard for reliable operations in harsh onboard environments. Moxa's VPort 364-M12 stood out as the world's first video encoder able to comply with the IEC 60571 railway standard.

"Modern rolling stock applications now demand more and more storage capacity. This is particularly true of Taipei MRT's NVR applications, which require continuous recording and playback. This is why we especially designed our V2406 and MC-4615 series embedded computers with large-capacity and anti-vibration hard disk protection to provide reliable storage solutions in the shock and vibration-rich environment found on moving vehicles." explained Leo Tsao, senior director of Moxa Power and Transportation division.

Trains on this metro line consist of two locomotives and four passenger cars. Moxa's TN-5516 industrial Ethernet switches will be installed inside each locomotive and every passenger car. The system operator can configure for wider bandwidth using trunk groups. Up to eight ports can be assigned to one trunk group to optimize network connections and create redundant paths for critical devices. Each passenger car will have four analog cameras and four intercoms connected to Moxa VPort 364-M12 industrial video encoders, which offer M12 connectors to ensure robust connections and reliable operations despite severe vibrations or shocks.
