Moxa to Present Market-Approved Innovations at SmartRail Asia 2014 in Bangkok

Brea, California, November 10, 2014—Moxa will present a comprehensive range of railway solutions at the upcoming SmartRail Asia show, which takes place in Bangkok from November 26 to November 28, 2014. The SmartRail Asia 2014 congress incorporates the 3rd annual Signaling and Telecoms Asia congress, featuring over 100 senior speakers addressing safety-critical signaling and communications systems. Together with decision-makers from government ministries, operators, and leading suppliers, Moxa will give a presentation introducing its industry-leading train-to-ground wireless roaming and intelligent inter-carriage communication innovations. Moxa will also showcase its integrated solutions for refurbished trains and new industrial Ethernet redundancy for inter-consists at the SmartRail 2014 exhibition.

Passenger Comfort is Driving Train Refurbishment
"The rail industry is increasingly reliant on IT to deliver not just mission-critical signaling and technological solutions, but also important passenger facing services. Getting value for their money is passengers’ number one priority. This is closely linked to the core provision of good train service—ensuring that most trains run on time, and dealing effectively when delays occur. The rail industry needs to continue focusing its efforts on delivering the core improvements that passengers really want, whether in franchise renewals or investment programs," explained Leo Tsao, senior director of the Moxa Railway Automation Solution Division.

At Smart Rail Asia 2014, Moxa will present how it overcame a number of obstacles experienced by customers, including space constraints, wiring difficulties, and limited budgets for train and metro refurbishment projects. Moxa’s ioPAC 8600 series of modular RTU controllers offers serial, I/O, and Ethernet as an all-in-one solution in one compact platform/device. The ioPAC 8600’s unique 2-wire Ethernet technology allows system integrators to deploy Ethernet IP networks on existing 2-wire train architectures to support the 100 Mbps networks already available on older trains waiting to be refurbished. In addition, Automatic Carriage Sequencing (ACS) is a key feature of Moxa’s ioPAC 8600. Systems on refurbished trains run on a daisy-chain network topology that uses CAN bus or RS-485, which means that when switching to an IP-based network, the automatic carriage sequencing function is not easy to duplicate. Moxa is able to bypass this challenge and continue to perform ACS functions on the new IP-network; this key breakthrough will greatly reduce the effort required by the system integrator.
