Taipei, Taiwan, April 22, 2026 — Moxa Inc., a leader in industrial communications and networking, is thrilled to announce that its ioPAC 6500 Series, a next-generation RTU, has won the prestigious Red Dot Award: Product Design 2025. The award recognizes the ioPAC 6500 Series for its innovative design that simplifies complexity in industrial system architectures. The series is positioned as an Intelligent Integrated Node (IIN) and features a modular hardware design that offers exceptional flexibility for system integration and deployment.

One Platform, Infinite Configurations: Solving System Complexity

As industrial infrastructure projects in oil and gas, water and wastewater, and critical utilities scale up, system owners have been struggling with fragmented systems because of increasing complexity in system architecture, installation, and long-term maintenance. Numerous disjointed devices from multiple vendors can lead to integration issues, a higher risk of setup errors, and more complex fieldwork.

The ioPAC 6500 Series addresses these challenges based on the IIN technology, co-developed by Saudi Aramco Technologies Company and Moxa Inc. The IIN hot-swappable, modular backplane enables users to easily insert specific I/O, communication, processing, power, or expansion modules, tailored to their unique site requirements, transforming a standard controller into a specialized industrial powerhouse without a cluttered cabinet.

Tool-free, Error-free Ingenuity

The Red Dot jury specifically highlighted the product’s mistake-proof, tool-free assembly. “The Moxa ioPAC 6500 Series convinces with its clean, user-friendly construction and wide adaptability to individual requirements,” the jury noted. For large-scale and mission-critical industrial deployments, this means users can reconfigure or expand the hardware on site in minutes. This action reduces the risk of wiring errors and significantly shortens installation timelines.

The award underscores Moxa’s commitment to delivering designs that not only meet functional requirements but also significantly improve the real-world experiences of engineers and operators working in demanding environments.

“The ioPAC 6500's DNA is built on the concept of adaptive simplicity,” said Yong Lin, product manager of Data Acquisition and Control Business Unit at Moxa. “By moving away from fixed-hardware limitations, we provide a foundation that evolves with the project. This modularity doesn’t just unify and simplify the cabinet layout; it dramatically lowers CAPEX by ensuring you only deploy the hardware you need, while slashing OPEX through easier field upgrades. It really helps improve operational efficiency and safety in asset-intensive operational facilities.”

Unified, Future-proof Foundation for Industrial Automation

The ioPAC 6500 Series provides an IEC 61131-3-compliant, IIoT-ready, secure platform. Its modular architecture ensures that the hardware can be adapted rather than replaced as technology advances. The next-generation RTU represents a shift from static logic controllers to dynamic, intelligent integrated nodes, offering a scalable, secure, and unified foundation to enhance edge computing and advance industrial automation.
